Free typing test
Type a passage from a classic fantasy book as accurately as you can. Your speed updates as you go.
How your score works
- WPM is your correct characters divided by five, per minute. Our WPM calculator shows the formula.
- Accuracy is the share of your keystrokes that were right. A mistake still counts against you after you fix it.
- You have to fix mistakes to finish, just like real typing.
Where the passages come from
Every test is an exact passage from a fantasy classic, chosen from 26 so far. These books are old enough to be in the public domain, and you can read all of them free on Project Gutenberg:
- The Worm Ouroboros by E. R. Eddison (1922)
- The Well at the World's End by William Morris (1896)
- Phantastes by George MacDonald (1858)
- The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald (1872)
- The Book of Dragons by E. Nesbit (1900)
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum (1900)
Old-fashioned writing has longer words, odd spellings and plenty of punctuation, so expect a lower score than on a test of common words. Use it to track your own progress.
